History of Modern Philosophy

The research group currently comprises pre-doc and post-doc researchers working on the history of modern philosophy and intellectual history. Their research, whether it be on Neo-Stoicism, Early Phenomenology or Architecture Theory, draws from a wide array of primary sources and relies on modern historiographical methodology and professional philological skills (e.g., Latin and Old German). The research group has hosted events from large international conferences to international and local workshops.

The aim of the research group, which cooperates with other research groups of the institute, is to serve as a hub in the institute for adopting cutting-edge international research in the history of modern philosophy and embedding the historiography of Hungarian philosophy in its regional and European contexts.

Together with other members of the institute, the research group operates the Archives of Hungarian Philosophy (Magyar Filozófiai Archívum, MFA). Initiated in 2015 by the director of the institute, the Archives contain digitalised documents and biographical data pertaining to Hungarian philosophers and their regional and European counterparts. The digital archives is currently under intensive construction and is expected to reach its next milestone by March 2019. Our long-term vision is to preserve the written heritage of the history of Hungarian philosophy and to make it accessible and available according to the research conditions of the 21th century as well.
